Welcome to a New and Exciting School Year!
I want to welcome you to the Northern Ozaukee School District! We are excited about the many great things that are happening in the district for our students and their families. It is a district that is continually improving and moving forward.

The district provides a quality education in a small school environment. The small environment allows the faculty to embrace a belief that we know, value, and appreciate the uniqueness of every child. In addition, the small environment allows students and their families to be involved in the school community.

The district operates three brick-and-mortar schools: Ozaukee Elementary School (pre-K to grade 4), Ozaukee Middle School (grades 5-8), and Ozaukee High School (grades 9-12). In addition the district operates the Wisconsin Virtual Academy (WIVA; grades K through 8), and Honors High Online (HHO; grades 9 through 11, with 12 being added in 2009-10). Five schools have a total enrollment of approximately 1850 students. Classroom ratios in the primary grades are 1:15, intermediate students 1:25, middle school grades 1:20, and most high school classes average 15 to 20 students.

The district's small size allows students the opportunity to be involved in all aspects of the co-curricular program. The district offers a variety of opportunities for middle level and high school students. There are no excuses for not being involved in the Northern Ozaukee School District.

Students are surrounded by supportive, caring, innovative, professional educators who strive to help every student realize his or her fullest potential as a learner. We are proud of our students, parents, and teachers. Northern Ozaukee School District is a great place for students to learn and develop.

Sincerely,

William R. Harbron, Ed.D.

Curriculum Work Continues
Throughout 2008-09, the district will continue to place emphasis on the revision and development of curriculum and assessment in order to continually improve the quality of the district’s learning program. Ozaukee Elementary and Middle schools will continue their emphasis on refinement and the identification of Essential Learning. The faculty is working to place the curriculum on a Web-based program called Eclipse. The site will become public in June 2009. In addition, both schools will continue to move forward in providing parents with standards-based report cards that will provide parents with more in-depth information on their child’s progress in achieving the district’s benchmarks and Wisconsin standards.

Ozaukee High School will undertake a most ambitious project in revisiting all courses and developing standards-based curricula over the next two years. Teachers participated in training on August 26-27 and will work throughout the year on the curriculum project.

Northern Ozaukee School District is committed to the continual improvement of the district’s curriculum and learning programs. All of us are excited to begin the new school year. We hope you share that excitement as we continue on the path to new growth and learning experiences for our community's children.
